THE LATVIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EU AND ITS ENERGY PRIORITIES

Latvia is holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the first semester of 2015 (January-July 2015). In its work programme, the Latvian Presidency has committed to concentrate its efforts on four elements of EU energy policy:
1) the development of the Energy Union concept (definition of the main principles in the first quarter and design of implementation plan), with a special focus on interconnections, regulatory issues (especially network codes for electricity and gas) and accompanying measures on the retail markets.
2) the follow-up of the implementation of European Energy Security Strategy, with an Assessment of the implemented short term measures.
3) the definition of the first elements of the governance structure for the 2030 Climate and Energy Package.
4) support to the legislative process of improvement of the Energy Labelling Directive and the Eco-Design regulations for respective groups of products.
THE ITALIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EU AND ITS ENERGY PRIORITIES

Italy is holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU in the second semester of 2014 (July-December 2014).
In its work programme, Italy has committed to concentrate its efforts in Energy policy in four pillars:
1) the post 2020 climate and energy framework,
2) EU Energy security
3)the completion of a single energy market
4) and external Energy policy
