INSIGHT_E is advised by a high-level group which provides general guidance and recommendations on the editorial orientation of the think tank.     Olivier Appert
    Chairman and CEO of IFP Energies nouvelles

    On April 2003, Mr. Appert was appointed Chairman and CEO of IFP Energies nouvelles. He is also chairing the Conseil Français de l'Energie, French committee of the World Energy Council. He is General Delegate of the French Academy of Engineering.
    Prior to that, in October 1999 he was appointed Director of the International Energy Agency’s Long-Term Cooperation and Policy Analysis Directorate. From 1998 to 1999, he was the Senior Executive Vice-President of ISIS, a technology holding company publicly listed subsidiary of the Institute Français du Pétrole (IFP).  From 1994 to 1998 he worked as Executive Vice-President of the IFP in charge of research and development activities.  From 1989 to 1994, he headed the oil and gas department of the French Industry Ministry.  Mr. Appert also served in the private sector from 1986 to 1989 as Vice-President of the Phillips group for mobile radio activity and strategy.  He was Executive Director of the French Industry Minister’s cabinet from 1984 to 1986 and was a member of Prime Minister’s cabinet from 1981 to 1984.
    Mr. Appert is a graduate of the l’Ecole Polytechnique and l’Ecole des Mines.

    DOMINIK MÖST 
    Professor of energy economics at the Technische Universität Dresde

    Dominik Möst is full professor of energy economics at the Technische Universität Dresden since 2010. Since 2013, he is Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, TU Dresden. Before being in Dresden, he was heading the research group „Energy system analysis and environment“ from 2004 to 2010 at the Institute for Industrial Production at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) – formerly Universität Karlsruhe (TH). Additional Mr. Möst was heading the Young Investigator Group (YIG) „New methods for energy market modelling“ at the KIT, which was granted within the Excellence program of the KIT.
    He studied Industrial Engineering and Business administration at the Universität Karlsruhe (TH) and at the ENSGI-INPG Grenoble (Ecole nationale supérieure de Genie Industriel, France), holds a Dr. degree in economics from the Universität Karlsruhe (TH) and habilitated at the Karlsruher Institute of Technology with the topic “Energy economics and energy system analysis - Methods for decision support and its application in energy markets”. 
    His topics of interest are energy system and market modelling, energy market design, long range developments of energy markets and price forecasts (especially gas, electricity and emission allowance markets), renewable energies and energy efficiency.

    ERNST SCHOLTZ (ABB)

     

    Ernst Scholtz was born in South Africa where he received his B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering and his M.Eng in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pretoria, in 1997 and 1999 respectively. In 2004, he obtained a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering. He was a Principal Scientist at ABB US Corporate Research, in Raleigh, NC from 2004 to 2008. In this capacity he focused on development of monitoring and control solutions for Electrical Power Transmission Systems and Equipment. In 2008, he joined EPIC Merchant Energy (now part of EDF Trading) in Houston, TX as a Senior Analyst focusing on system analysis of and financial trading in deregulated power markets. In 2009, Ernst rejoined ABB Corporate Research as the Global Program Manager for Grid Automation where he managed a research portfolio until 2014 focused on Power Grid Techno-economic Analysis, Automation and Control with projects being executed at Research Centers in USA, Switzerland, Sweden, Poland, India and China. During the same period he also acted as the CTO for ABB's Industry Sector Initiative on Smart Grids. Currently he is the Global R&D Strategy Manager at ABB reporting to the CTO.  In this capacity he drives strategic techno-economic analysis projects dealing with power and automation topics and executed by ABB R&D technologists in collaboration with ABB Corporate Strategy. Ernst's interests are in the areas of systems, control, and finance with a focus on applications in power systems, and industrial processes.
